Complete four front-facing half pictures: circle-spot butterfly, stripe butterfly, heart butterfly and a wave butterfly. Each activity prints the left side and leaves the right side for drawing. The dotted vertical line is the mirror axis. A separate four-page answer file shows the completed reflection for each picture in the same order.
Use the Dotted Line as Your Mirror
Print the Half Pictures file for the activity and keep Mirror Answers as a separate reference. Begin with the large outside shape. Choose a point on the printed side, notice its height and distance from the center line, and place the matching point at the same height and distance on the right. Join several matching points to build the missing curve or edge.
Work outwards from features that meet the center line. A nose, circle, roof point or body division on that line may be only half printed. Finish its missing half rather than drawing a second whole feature beside it. Use a pencil so you can adjust spacing before coloring.
Circle-spot Butterfly
Begin with the large upper wing and the smaller lower wing. Each contains one round spot. Place their counterparts at matching heights on the right, checking how far each spot sits from the dotted axis. The narrow central body, small head and antenna also need their right halves. Keep the space between the two wing lobes open instead of joining their outer tips.
Stripe Butterfly
The upper left wing has two broad slanting stripes and the lower wing has one. Copy the wing boundary first, then mirror the stripes. Their slopes reverse on the other side: a stripe running downward toward the body on the left should do the same toward the body from the right. Match their endpoints inside the wings before adding color.
Heart Butterfly
Find the heart-shaped decoration in the upper wing and the small circle in the lower wing. Complete the outside wings before copying those inner shapes. Mirror the whole heart, including its dip and point, rather than drawing it with the same slant as the original. The answer page shows how the two hearts face one another across the central body.
Wave Butterfly
The short wave in each wing changes direction several times. Copy the smooth outer wing first, then work through those smaller turns from the body outward. Compare each bend's height with the left-hand example. The top and bottom waves are different, so use the matching wing as your guide instead of repeating the top pattern in both wings.
Compare the Finished Reflection
Once the outside is complete, copy the smaller interior marks. Check each mark against its own partner: height first, distance from the center second, and the direction of any sloping line last. Reflection reverses left and right. A diagonal on the left will slope the other way on the right when both lean toward the center.
Use the corresponding answer page to compare your result. It shows one whole picture made from the same left half, including the interior decoration. You can color after completing the drawing; matching colors on both sides is optional. The complete PDF contains all eight pages, with the four half pictures first and their four answers after them. Print only the activity pages when you want to keep the answers aside.
