Choose a Sky Picture

The star, cloud and sun each use twenty dots. The crescent moon uses nineteen. Every page starts at 1, follows consecutive numbers and finishes by joining the last dot back to 1. The instruction at the top names the closing connection so the shape is not left open.

The sun rays are printed already. Join only the numbered circle dots, not the ends of those rays. On the moon, the numbering follows the outside curve and then returns along the inside curve of the crescent. The face sits inside the picture, away from the numbered outline.

Connect One Number at a Time

Start by finding 1 and 2, then make one pencil line between those dots. Continue to the next number each time. If the next dot is hard to find, point to its number before drawing; there is no need to finish quickly.

After reaching the last number, connect back to 1 and look at the complete outline. If a line has gone to the wrong dot, erase that connection and check the two numbers before continuing. Keep the answer sheet aside until the attempt is finished, or use it to show the intended outline when help is needed.

Print Activities Without the Answers

The activity-only file has four pages; the answer-only file has four matching pages. The complete download puts the four activities first and the four answers after them. Choose one picture in your PDF viewer if you do not want to print all four.

Use matching A4 or US Letter paper in portrait orientation. Fit to printable area is suitable; there is no exact-size cutting or assembly. Check that every number is readable on the first sheet. Ordinary paper and a pencil are enough, with crayons or colored pencils for optional coloring.

A Short Drawing Break

Offer one sky picture at a quiet table or keep the collection in a small drawing folder. Once the outer shape is finished, a child can add stars around the moon or a sky around the cloud on the spare white area. Extra drawing is optional and does not change which dots connect.

These are simple picture activities, not an assessment of counting or handwriting. An adult can help locate numbers without taking over the drawing.

You may print these files for personal, family and classroom activities. Share this resource page with another adult rather than selling or rehosting the PDFs.
