Look at the Outer Shape

The first sheet uses teddy bear, train, kite, sailboat and rubber duck. The second uses toy car, rocking horse, drum, spinning top and stacking rings. Each shadow keeps the outline of its matching picture while removing the inner colors and details.

Start with a feature that reaches the outside: the kite string, sail, teddy ears or horse rocker. Find that same feature in the right-hand group before drawing a line. A painted stripe inside a toy will not appear in its solid shadow, so color alone cannot identify the answer.

Connect One Pair at a Time

Point to a toy on the left, find the matching outline on the right, then draw a line between them. Number labels identify the colored pictures and letters identify the shadows. The two sides are shuffled; a picture does not necessarily match the shadow directly opposite it.

If the drawn lines cross, that is fine. Follow each line from one endpoint to the other when checking. For a child who prefers not to draw long lines, say the number-letter pair aloud and have an adult record it beside the sheet.

Check the Separate Answer Page

Each answer page repeats its activity and adds all five connecting lines. A short pair list at the bottom provides another way for an adult to check a crossing line. Keep the answers aside during play, or open them on a screen afterwards.

Try only one sheet for a short activity. You can name the toys first if some are unfamiliar, then ask what makes their shapes different. Both sheets belong to one collection of ten toys, rather than requiring the child to compare all ten shadows at once.

Print and Use the Sheets

The activity file contains two pages, and the answer file contains two more. The complete pack combines all four. Choose A4 or US Letter in portrait orientation; Fit to printable area is suitable because no exact physical measurement is required.

The left-hand pictures are colored, while the shadows are solid dark shapes. Grayscale printing is an option if the pictures remain clear on your first sheet. Use ordinary paper and pencil, and leave each page whole so the labels and shadows stay together.

You may print these files for personal, family and classroom activities. Share this resource page with another adult rather than selling or rehosting the PDFs.
